Mediation
Mediation brings people in conflict together
with a neutral third person who assists them in reaching a
mutually-agreeable solution. The mediator helps clarify the issues,
consider options and reach an agreement that fits their
needs.
ADVANTAGES OF MEDIATION:
YOU HELP DECIDE THE
SOLUTION
Mediation lets you decide on the solution that best suits your needs.
Each dispute is seen as a problem to be solved. The mediator does not make
decisions or judgments, but uses skills to help each side of the conflict
reach an agreement. Mediation is private, and solutions are reached by the
people in conflict, not imposed by the courts.

BLAME ISN’T IMPORTANT, ONLY
SOLUTIONS
Because mediation looks forward, the focus is not on what caused the
problem, but on the solutions that can best suit the needs and interests
of people involved. Mediation ensures that both sides are heard.
MEDIATION IS LESS EXPENSIVE &
LESS INTIMIDATING THAN COURT
Mediation is informal and less intimidating than court. Mediation
services are also faster and less expensive than settling a dispute or
conflict through the courts.
MEDIATION DEALS WITH FEELINGS AND
RELATIONSHIPS
Each person is encouraged to tell their story in their own way. Facing
emotions and feelings often helps in reaching a settlement. Going to court
often divides people even further and increases anger and hostility.
HIGH CHANCES OF SATISFACTION AND
CONFLICT SETTLEMENT
Participants in mediation report higher satisfaction
rates than people who go to court. Because each side is actively involved
in finding a mutually agreed upon solution, they have a higher commitment
to the settlement than people who have a judge decide their
case.
85% of
mediated situations end in agreement.
